Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS)

Suncor Continuous Emissions Monitoring

Pursuant to Title V air permit requirements and as approved by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), Suncor is committed to providing air monitoring data recorded by continuous emission monitoring systems (CEMS) to the public.

CEMS monitors various pieces of equipment located across Suncor's operations in Commerce City, Colorado. Suncor provides monitoring information for the following compounds measured at our refining assets in Commerce City:

  • Carbon Monoxide (CO)
  • Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S)
  • Sulfur Dioxide (SO2)
  • Nitrous Oxide (NOx)
  • Particulate Matter (PM)/Opacity
  • Oxygen (O2)

CEMS measurements are taken directly at the discharge point of stationary source equipment and, in some cases, within process lines before being routed to emissions control equipment. These measurements are taken onsite at the facility at heights above ground level, often exceeding 100 feet, and do not reflect ground-level conditions or community air quality.
